I would love to know what the profit margin on this toy is. The price is astronomical for a toy that is not particularly well made. Ours didn’t fall apart as quickly as the other reviewer’s, but don’t expect this toy to last long. Kids are inevitably going to play with the door latch; a responsible manufacturer would take that fact into account and make it as sturdy as possible. If it were on sale for $5 to $7, you could probably buy the thing without feeling ripped off. The current price (over $25) is absurd. That said, for as long as the toy lasted, my daughter loved it. Appropriate for age 18 months, give or take a few either way–based on our experience, at least.

It broke the day we got it – the lid wouldn’t stay down – and it had to be returned. :( The store told us they had that problem, so we had to trade it for a CG lunchbox.

After reading the reviews, I was hesitant to buy the item, however, my child loves Curious George. It works just fine. We’ve had it several months and yes, she goes straight for the latch in most cases, however, it has never had a problem.

People that said the latch broke don’t understand that once the lid pops up on a jack in the box, you have to keep turning the handle so the latch resets itself before you push the lid back down. This is normal for a jack in the box, not a defect of the product.

After seeing my child enjoy the toy, it was definitely worth the money.

  4. Jack in the box broke within 2 days of light use by 2 yr old. Amazon was great, returned shipping prepaid and money credited to charge card.

I purchased this toy for a kid who loves jack in the boxes & curious george. He LOVES it. The toy is cute, but it hasn’t held up so well….we are on our third one in less than a year. Still, he loves it, and it’s not too expensive, so I replaced it….twice. :) I don’t know if other jack in the box toys would be more durable, or if it’s the nature of the toy that makes it easily worn out & broken.
